Why changing locks can make sense
Previous owners, tenants, relatives, tradespeople or neighbours may have held legitimate copies over the years. There is usually no complete record of where those keys ended up.
Start with external access
Prioritise front, back, side, garage and connecting doors. Check accessible windows, outbuildings and any shared access arrangements too.
Do not overlook the door condition
New cylinders will not correct loose hinges, weak frames or a multipoint door that does not engage cleanly. A useful security visit considers the complete opening.
Prepare for the appointment
Photograph the doors and existing hardware, gather any insurer wording, and decide how many keys the household actually needs.
