1. Can a locksmith open every door without damage?

Many lockouts can be resolved using a non-destructive technique, but no responsible locksmith can guarantee that before understanding the lock, its condition and how it failed.

Ask what approach is likely and when drilling or replacement might become necessary. The aim should be the least destructive practical route, with any change explained first.

2. Will I need to prove I can enter the property?

You may be asked for identification, an address document, tenancy information or confirmation from someone with authority. If your proof is locked inside, explain that on the call so a reasonable way to verify access can be discussed.

This protects property owners, occupiers and the locksmith. It is a positive sign when lawful access is taken seriously.

3. Can I get an exact price on the phone?

Sometimes photographs and a clear description support a useful estimate. An exact total may still depend on inspecting the hardware, door alignment, required parts and the cause of the fault.

Ask what the estimate includes, which factors could change it and whether the work will be agreed before starting. Clear job details are more useful than a headline figure with no context.

4. What information should I have ready?

A short, specific description helps Andrew assess the journey, urgency and likely equipment before setting off.

  • The exact postcode or town
  • Whether the property or door can currently be secured
  • The door material and what the key or handle is doing
  • Anything that happened just before the fault appeared
  • Clear photographs, sent through WhatsApp when safe and useful

5. What are the opening hours?

Abel Locksmiths is open Monday–Saturday, 7am–9pm. Call during opening hours and Andrew will confirm current availability and travel time.

If anyone is in immediate danger, use the appropriate emergency service rather than waiting for a tradesperson.

6. Is the service only for home lockouts?

No. The service range includes domestic and commercial locks, uPVC doors and windows, wooden door work, key cutting and broken-key removal, plus boarding and glass replacement.

Describe the premises and problem before booking. Work not listed on the service pages needs to be discussed directly before a visit is arranged.
